Very nice set, biggest knife is the tiniest bit flimsy I do love this knife set, especially for the price. The knife block looks awesome, everything works as expected, and it's a joy to cook with. I slice through meat, veggies, and everything else without problem, and very neatly. My one issue is that the biggest knife seems a little bit flimsy. I don't know if my cutting block is the issue (plastic, not wood), which may well be, but it doesn't seem to have the thickness I expect. Maybe I'm just used to dull knives, though. In all, I recommend the set, especially for the price. I'm sure you already know how highly rated this set is by knife appraisers.
tropicalports: ReviewThis set of three knives from R.H. Forschner by Victorinox makes an excellent gift for the home chef. The 4-inch paring knife adeptly manages most fruit and vegetable peeling, cutting, and garnishing; the 8-inch slicing knife carves the Thanksgiving turkey and other roasts; and the large 10-inch chef's knife tackles a multitude of kitchen chopping, mincing, and slicing tasks. The Fibrox blades are made in Germany and hand-finished in Switzerland. Providing a comfortable grip, the triple-rivet, ergonomic POM (plastic over molded) handles are curved in such a way so as to reduce wrist strain over long periods of use. While the knives are dishwasher-safe, Forschner recommends washing them by hand and covers them with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects. --Ann Bieri

Simply amazing I purchased these with the need for affordable knives, and I saw the perfect review score for this set on Amazon (18/18 reviews at 5 stars). I figured I couldn't go wrong.
I didn't.
Obviously the most important trait of a knife is how sharp it is. These are simply the sharpest knives I have ever used. I've used cheap ones that cheat and use a serration to achieve sharpness, and I've used pricier Henkels and similar. A sharper knife is actually a safer knife, since your cuts will be precise. A duller knife won't cut where you expect and can cause injuries that way. To give an idea of how sharp these are, I was able to easily slice a bagel without using a saw motion at all. Not impressed? I did the same with a ripe tomato. Yes, slicing a tomato with just pressing down. I'd never been able to do that with the Henkels even after a fresh sharpening. These knives have made so many kitchen tasks so much easier.
What's even better is that for the price of that Henkels chef knife, you get 3 of the most useful knives to have in thekitchen. This price is simply amazing for what you get.
Well, nothing is perfect and unfortunately these knives are no exception. After being used to the Henkels chef knife, this Forschner was startlingly lightweight. I know that over time I will adjust for it, but I would have liked more weight I suppose. I would just suggest that until you're used to the weight, just be extra careful with the chef's knife. All said, this is such a minor setback for how amazing these knives are otherwise.
There is a reason why these knives have so many 5 star ratings. They are simply that good. For the cost, there is no way you will regret buying them. I purchased these on a budget, and down the road when money isn't an issue, I'll be looking first at Forcshner/Victorinox.

Great Santoku Knife! I've been using a butcher knife to cut meat. Then I wanted a better knife set. A cooking magazine recommended Forschner and I'm so happy with this Santoku! It cuts everything like butter! This knife has cut down my chopping time in the kitchen in half! (no pun intended). It's also much cheaper than the Henckels knives I was thinking about purchasing too!
The straight edge and wide blade of this knife make it ideal for chopping and cutting vegetables, fruits and some other foods. R. H. These knives are specially ground and tempered so that they can be resharpened over and over again, keeping a sharp edge throughout their lifetime. Forschner Victorinox Fibrox knives have earned high marks in a well-known cooking magazine which stringently tests kitchen products.
It slices! It dices! I'm not going to lie to you and say that this is the best knife I own. I compared it against my J.A. Henckels Twin Five Star 8-Inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Chef's Knife, and definitely found it wanting. A stamped blade is simply not as good as a forged blade, both in terms of balance and edge. I also found it too light and at the same time bulky in my hand, making it more difficult to handle over all.
That being said, in this price range you are not going to find better. Victorinox are the makers of the famous "Swiss army knife", and they know a thing or two about mass-produced quality. For a stamped blade it is very sharp and strong, and with care will hold up for many years of use. I have had stamped blades snap before, especially at the tip or handle, but there are no problems here. I gave it a nice workout in my kitchen, and was very pleased with its performance. The grip is a little rough at first, but it won't slip from your hand which is nice to know.
So, while this isn't going to replace my forged blades any time soon, it is an excellent back-up chef's knife to have, and the cook on a budget is going to be thrilled.
The small chef's knife is handy for mincing shallots, slicing radishes, and also for working on larger foods, especially if the souschef has small hands and finds a big knife hard to manage. R. H. pretty nice, needed sharpening I order this as one of 6 knives to decide what I wanted on my counter top. I LOVE the handle, even though its stamped, that handle is so grippy and comfy its almost sad that the blade came kinda dull. I tried steelingit, but ended up working on it for 30 mins with a sharpener, the knife is really sharp now, seems to hold it well now that it has one, but that may be a fluke considering the luck others have had. I give it 4 stars because of the 6 it needed the most time at the sharpener, and for its price, there are better in my cabinet I will buy more of first.
Yep, cuts Steak perfectly! These are great knives. Not the best looking, but will do at the dinner table. Great for the money. I have several of their knives.
The bread knife is handy for slicing bread, of course, but also for slicing through croissants, cakes, and soft-fleshed tough-skinned fruits and vegetables such as citrus and tomatoes. R. H. 10 1/4" Forschner Ordered this knife based on the reviews. It is a superb knife in every aspect - couldn't be more pleased. Am a Sr. Citizen with many "cooking" years of experience. Also, knife was delivered promptly.

Glad I spent the $ Glad I spent the money on these Forschner/Victorinox. We had an old-old set of Henkels (maybe 10 yrs old) and didn't realize how thin they were until comparing these . These feel very solid in the hand. We use them for every day cooking - we're no gourmets.
Great knife This knife has a good feel to it and is very sharp though I would not consider it a "paring" knife. I would recommend it because it's good quality at a great price. (My idea of a paring knife is something a little smaller with a curved handle and blade.)
