English Why I Wrote This Book When I began writing this book, I must admit, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find 500 destinations that were endangered. Sadly enough, I soon found myself having to pick and choose among way too many threatened treasures. But while many of the 500 places I covered this book are urgently in need of rescue, I also found a surprising number of places that are already on the road to being saved. I found this guidebook worse than useless. I left it in the airport when I left. Perhaps I was frustrated because I had had such awesome guidebooks for South America, Africa, and Europe. We ended up using my buddy's iPhone for everything. This book is extremely poorly organized. You'd need to devote hours studying it to find anything you were looking for. Her writing style was annoying and superfluous (who needs half a page for each hotel describing how utterly delightful it is?). There was little to nothing for students/ budget travelers or thrill seekers. The maps weren't helpful.
Save your money and get something else. Perhaps this one is OK for families or older tourists, but not for me.
The only useful sections were the few listing suggested itineraries and "top tens".

English Don't leave home without it! Just back from three weeks in the Yucatan (and I had a wonderful time!), and found this to be a reliable guide. The rating system is dependable, the maps helpful, and for the most part the info is up to date. I will say this, you might concidering more than one guide book as all of them seem to have some defficincies. This would be most important for the independent travler and the travler who is planning to get away from the major resorts.You might also consider buying good maps. This book, and "A Tourist In The Yucatan" (Great thriller!) made my vacation truely unforgettable!

English A Helpful Book Frommer's Israel was useful to have in hand. Background history and
archeological sites were well-explained, and there are lots of human
interest boxes that added to our understanding of ancient sites as
wells as major cities. In practical terms, we liked a handy 2 page
spread filled with excellent street food and cheap meal suggestions
for Jerusalem's busy downtown district, where wall to wall eateries
can be a confusing maze ( In some cases choices were no-name holes in
the wall). The book also clued us in to terrific "business lunch"
deals (til 5 or 6pm) at wonderful restaurants. The Frommer's people
clearly love the place and packed the book with a wide range of
suggestions for all kinds of travelers and their interests, including
young kids.
Another Amazon reviewer thought Israel's great Aroma coffee
shops weren't mentioned. But actually, we found Aroma among the tons
of cafes and eateries in the center of Jerusalem because Frommer's
praised it in a special box on Best Coffee Places (two downtown
branches for Aroma in Jerusalem, as well as a number of other great
local coffee cafes are on page 139). Initially, we wondered why
Frommer's listed no Starbucks -- it's almost un-American to omit
them, but apparently, they don't exist in Israel. One minus: Map
bullets showing some restaurant locations were not clear for the tiny
maze of downtown Jerusalem streets, but in the end, we found what we
were looking for.
