This will save you time and Money!!!
Dude, get the book. It saved us a ton of time in picking up our tix at the Palatine hills rather than at the Coliseum. It also got us to St. Peter's at 1pm with a 30 min wait, rather than do what everyone else does which is to arrive at 9am and have a 3 hour wait.

The tips alone is certainly worth worth every penny. Let's not forget the key things to see in his book and the slight bit of history on each place. However, I found the restaurants really difficult to find in Italy, but I had a tough time finding the Coliseum too:P

Not a way to learn the language
It seems that Americans buy books such as these in great numbers. They are generally a waste of time. If one observes how most foreigners speak English when they visit us, we might try to emulate them when we go abroad. Italian is not a particularly difficult language to learn; there are many cognates with English....and Spanish and French. You will enjoy foreign travel so much more if your vocabulary can be extended beyond "Where is the Post Office". In fact, with laptops and e-mail, no one really uses the post office very much these days. Get some tapes and listen to them on your commute; take an adult ed. course, but these phrase books, which looked cute 50 years ago when post-war Americans started discovering Europe should now be considered obsolete.

Rick Steve's London
My wife and I went to London for a week and this book was excellent for time management to see what we could actually pack in and what was worth checking out. Additionally, Rick's writing style is great and we often found ourselves laughing at his commentary that was right on the mark.

Description

First published in 1969, this classic manual of automotive repair equips VW owners with the knowledge to handle every situation they will come across with any air-cooled Volkswagen built through 1978, including Bugs, Karmann Ghias, vans, and campers. With easy-to-understand, fun-to-read information — for novice and veteran mechanics alike — anecdotal descriptions, and clear language, this book takes the mystery out of diagnostic, maintenance, andrepair procedures, and offers some chuckles along the way. This edition features new information on troubleshooting, new photos, and an updated resource list.

Excellent!
This book is the ultimate guide for keeping your Volkswagen up to speed. The diagrams show it the way it really is - not a computer generated drawing. This way, you truly know how it looks when you get in there and what to do with all the stuff! Computer drawings throw you off base and can be confusing because they do not truly represent what's in there.

It's truly for the "idiot." The text is down to earth and humorous at times. I highly recommend this book for someone who is going to be working on a Volkswagen.

The best guide book
We have been to Rome twice and this is by far the best guide book. It has the latest information and contains everything you need. He gives you information you want and tells you things you wouldn't think to think of. I especially like the step by step instructions on how to get from place to place and the history behind it all. And he's funny!

Very helpful!
I spent 9 days this spring in Florence and Tuscany & found this book to be absolutely wonderful--full of great tips to get the most of your trip. Obviously, a lot of other people found him useful too, as everywhere we went, we saw people toting his book around! My German sister-in-law found it comical!

I am so glad that my friend introduced me to Rick Steves! I now own 3 of his books and am actually shopping for a couple more to use in the coming year!
